BBQ takes over downtown Waterloo

Posted: Updated:

Barbeque lovers from all over brought their appetites to Lincoln Park downtown Waterloo. The 13th annual "BBQ Loo and Blues Too" kicked off Friday.

The two-day event draws in thousands of people to taste-test barbeque sauces and sandwiches, and listen to live blues music.

Additionally, more than 30 competitors from four states submitted barbeque dishes for a cook-off, vying for cash prizes and titles based on taste, texture and tenderness of the meat.

"It's just a fun environment out here. You got everybody out here and families...people listening to music over there, it's just a good place to be," said Dante Martin of Waterloo.

Martin said he planned to attend the barbeque event a week in advance.

"We took off work to come here," he said.

The weekend events wrap up at about 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.
