Someone You Should Know: Ariana Seedorff starts toy drive

"She's a really sweet little girl. She's very much a mother hen," said Heidi Nuss, the mother of Ariana Seedorff.

10-year-old Seedorff loves to swim and read books, but she especially loves playing with little kids. One day she asked her mom to take her to the library; she had the idea of starting a book drive for a local children's hospital.

After doing some research, her idea stemmed into a toy drive. Ariana looked up hospitals in the area, and chose Blank Children's Hospital in Des Moines to benefit.

"They're in the hospital and can't see everything that other people do. They don't get to go to stores every day or hang out with friends every day," Ariana said.

So, she set up an appointment with Mary Wells, CEO of Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, to ask for help in her endeavor.

"When she asked if we could be a drop-off center I said more than that, we would help get the word out as we could, help with anything that we could," Wells said.

Ariana is looking for things like movies, games, books, board games, batteries, arts and crafts and bubbles for her toy drive. Toys can be dropped off July 21 to 25 at Community Memorial Hospital in Sumner, located at 909 W. First St.

The hospital is asking for no plush toys, to avoid the transfer of germs. New toys are preferable.
