An Iowa City man was arrested Thursday night after a homemade explosive device was found in his home.

The Johnson County Drug Task Force searched 624 Brookland Park Drive, the home of 24-year-old Paul Franklin Lee, at around 7 p.m. Thursday.

Investigators say they found psilocybin mushrooms and a large red tube with a fuse.

They say Lee admitted the tube was an explosive device and the Johnson County Bomb Squad was called in to neutralize it. The bomb squad found that the device contained a homemade high explosive.

Investigators say they seized Lee's phone and other items and placed them in a bag that was accidentally left behind.

When they returned for the bag, Lee claimed he had no idea where the bag containing the cell phone was. Investigators called the phone, which was found in the house wrapped in a pair of underwear.

Investigators say Lee then told them that he threw the bag in the river and refused to help them find it.

Lee is charged with possession of incendiary or explosive device, possession of controlled substance second offense and obstructing prosecution or defense.
