UPDATE: 2 shots-fired calls investigated by Cedar Rapids Police

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

Cedar Rapids police are currently investigating two reports of shots fired from Thursday evening.

The calls came in within hours of each other and happened just a few blocks apart.

The first call happened around 7:30 p.m. in the area of 15th Street and 5th Avenue SE. Police said officers found two houses and one vehicle on 5th Avenue SE were hit. No one was hurt. 

The second call happened a littler after 9 p.m. in the 600 block of 15th Street SE.

Police are investigating whether the two calls are related.

There have been 51 confirmed cases of shots fired in Cedar Rapids so far this year. In 2013, there were 56 cases over the course of the entire year.

Cedar Rapids Police Chief Wayne Jerman has said that investigators believe many of the cases are related.
