JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) - Abby Miller was just three, but her family says she acted a lot older.

"She had this favorite little doll called Baby Janet that she ran around with everywhere," said Janice Marner, Abby's aunt. "She started talking clearly -- complete sentences -- by the time she was one-and-a-half."

"I remember her running around, talking about her favorite color, used to be purple and now it's red -- very adamant about it," said Evonda Braswell, a close family friend. "Lots of running around in her little Minnie Mouse dress."

Earlier this week, Abby was playing in a stock tank with her older siblings when she drowned. There was just a few feet of water in the tank.

The tank was a new toy for the family -- and Abby's mother, family members say, spent a lot of time looking up safety tips.

"She did a lot of research about child safety, making sure it was behind a fence with a gate," said Marner. "Making sure it was supervised, and so (she) just never thought it would happen to her and how quickly it would happen."

The kids were just supposed to grab their toys, and their mother would be out in minute to watch them swim.

Family members think Abby reached into the water to get her goggles. When her mother came outside, she realized what happened.

"Research and have all that knowledge, but just don't take your eyes off of them," said Marner. "It happens really quick."

Abby's mother has taken away their stock tank. The Millers hope other families are careful and observant when letting kids near water. The family is grateful to the community for being so supportive this week.
