Green Sea Turtle joins Dubuque's River Museum

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A rescued, non-releasable threatened Green Sea Turtle is the newest animal on exhibit in the National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium's Gulf of Mexico exhibit.

The female Green Sea Turtle comes to Dubuque from the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a hospital for ill and injured sea turtles located on Jekyll Island, GA. Someone found the turtle July 12, 2013 with an old fracture to the shell, probably due to a boat strike. Her wound is completely healed, but the turtle cannot use her rear flippers and floats with her hind end up.

The Museum & Aquarium will be taking suggestions for a name for the new Green Sea Turtle through August 2.  Suggestions can be placed in a ballot box located near the Gulf of Mexico exhibit in the National River Center building.
