Posted: Updated:

FORT MADISON, Iowa (AP) - A judicial commission has asked the Iowa Supreme Court to suspend a judge accused of being intoxicated while on the job.

The Iowa Commission on Judicial Qualifications asked the high court Tuesday to suspend District Associate Judge Emily Dean, who presides over the North Lee County District Associate Court in Fort Madison.

The Burlington Hawk Eye reports (http://bit.ly/1jCruIW ) the Iowa Supreme Court heard oral arguments about the case Tuesday. It is expected to issue a ruling within the next few weeks.

Dean is accused of being intoxicated while on the bench and in the courthouse between late 2011 and 2012. The newspaper reports she later completed in-patient treatment for substance abuse.

The commission is seeking a three-month suspension that would run one week at a time.
