IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Five eastern Iowa food vendors will set up shop in Chauncey Swan Park in Iowa City to gauge local interest.

This comes after the city leaders approved a pilot program to see the local interests in having more mobile food trucks and vending carts within city limits.

Currently, six mobile vendors sell foods on the Ped Mall in Downtown Iowa City, and mobile food vendors and carts can also conduct business on private property, but residents and vendors have expressed an interest in seeing more food trucks and food carts located in different parts of the City.

There are five self-powered food vendors that have been selected for the program that start today and will set up every Thursday and Friday for the next couple of months.

Hours of operation will be 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Thursdays and 11 a.m.-7 p.m. on Fridays.

The vendors include the Bread Garden Market, Chicago Barbecue Company, Keepin' Up with the Jones's, Local Burrito and The Box Lunch.
