Shaun Hogan, 36, has been charged with the murder of Crystal Gaffney. Shaun Hogan, 36, has been charged with the murder of Crystal Gaffney.

Search warrants detail the items seized from the home of Shaun Hogan, a suspect in the murder of a Waterloo woman.

The body of Crystal Gaffney was found on a rural Linn County road last week. Hogan was arrested the next day.

Authorities executed two search warrants, one at his home on Edwards Street, and another at the University Avenue apartment complex where he was found. Officers seized a crowbar and claw hammer from a shed at Hogan's home, in addition to his laptop. They also took a golf club, axe, machete and pieces of clothing from the University Avenue apartment.

In a statement included with the search warrants, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation Special Agent Michael Roehrkasse writes that Hogan's ex-wife said he told her he "did something bad," indicating that Gaffney was not breathing. He also apparently told her he needed to leave town.

According to the warrants, Gaffney's children were reportedly overheard saying they saw Hogan stab their mother.
