City of Dubuque unveils redesigned website

DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

The City of Dubuque unveiled a major overhaul of its website this week.

The new format features changes in design, layout and navigation structure. The city says it hopes the redesign will help facilitate enhanced communication between the community and local government.

In addition, the website is now more interconnected with the city's social media accounts, allowing visitors to easily navigate to Dubuque's Facebook timeline, Twitter account and YouTube channel. People can also more easily share city pages to a variety of social media sites.

An "Alerts" page now allows visitors to register to receive emergency and non-emergency alerts through the CodeRED notification system, receive street construction and detour notices and create a Smart911 safety profile.

As always, the website continues to serve as a central point of contact for people who want to contact the city to ask a question, report a concern or make a payment.

"The website was due for a new look so we took advantage of this opportunity to modify the navigation as well, based on the most frequently visited pages and modules on the site," Dubuque's public information officer Randy Gehl said. "There is a tremendous amount of information available on the site and it’s a challenge to create a ‘short cut’ to some of it, but we believe the redesign will help visitors quickly find what they’re looking for."

Gehl encourages visitors to provide feedback on the new design and offer any suggestions for improved navigation. People can submit those comments using the "Contact Us" tool.

The redesign is the first major overhaul of the city's website since the previous version was launched in Nov. 2008.
