Dad of slain Mason City boy says jury failed son

Posted: Updated:

MASON CITY, Iowa (AP) - The father of a Mason City toddler slain in 1994 says the jury that acquitted 38-year-old Michael Cisneros failed his son.

The Mason City Globe Gazette reports (http://bit.ly/Ua6woL ) John Snyder Sr., who now lives in Huntington Beach, California, said the verdict rendered Monday "just didn't make sense at all."

Cisneros was found not guilty of first-degree murder in the slaying of 20-month-old John Snyder Jr. His dad reported the boy missing on July 20, 1994, and his body was found the next day in a creek.

Cisneros was arrested in July 2013. Investigators said there was a match between his DNA profile and blood found on the boy's pajama bottoms.

During trial the defense focused on the actions of the toddler's father, who denied any involvement in the boy's death.
