Lane closures, road construction to impact driver and bus routes
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -
If you plan to drive on East Washington Street between S. Madison and S. Capital Street in Iowa City, you might want to expect delays.
Wednesday, that section of road will be closed, weather permitting.
City crews will also reduce S. Madison Street near E. Washington Street to one lane of traffic in each direction.
The closure and lane reduction is necessary for city crews to complete pavement repair in the area.
Due to the closure, outbound Iowa City buses traveling south from the interchange will use Capitol Street to Burlington Street. Buses traveling west from the interchange will use Capitol Street to Burlington Street to Riverside Drive, Grand Avenue or Newton Road.
Inbound buses coming from the south or west will use Burlington Street to either Capitol Street or Clinton Street to enter the interchange.
The bus stops located at the UI Main Library, Washington Street and Madison Street, Madison Street and Iowa Avenue, and Lindquist Center will not be serviced during the pavement project. Normal service will resume once the concrete work is completed and the intersection of Washington Street and Madison Street is reopened to normal traffic.
The closure is expected to be in effect through Monday, July 28.
