West Delaware outlasts Waverly-SR to advance to state softball

In a 4A Regional Championship game between two state powers--10th ranked West Delaware outlasted Waverly-Shell Rock 2-1 in 11 innings to earn a trip to next week's State Softball Tournament in Fort Dodge. The game was scoreless through five innings as the Go-Hawks pitcher Sara Demuth and West Delaware's Hannah Cole only allowed a single hit and just three base runners.  Both teams scored a run in the sixth and the game remained tied at 1 until West Delaware won it in the bottom of the 11th.

    Kee High baseball coach Gene Schultz is stepping down after 45 years at the helm. Schultz leaves Kee as the nations all-time wins leader with a total of 1,754 in his career. The National Federation of State High School Associations recognizesSchultz's record as1,578 wins as those ones came during the summer baseball season. Under his direction, the Kee Hawks won 9 summer baseball state titles, and 11 total. The school's last state championship came in the 2005 season.More >>
