JOHNSON COUNTY (KWWL) -

A 3-year-old playing with her siblings in the family's makeshift pool in Johnson County died after she was discovered underwater and unresponsive.

Abby Miller, 3, was pronounced dead at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics on Tuesday morning, according to the Johnson County Sheriff's Office and family members who posted the news on Facebook.

Miller had been playing with her siblings in a stock tank the family used as a pool on Monday at 11:30 a.m., according to officials, when she was discovered underwater and unresponsive.

Her mother began trying to resuscitate her, and emergency officials who responded to the scene at 4808 Sharon Center Road SW also made efforts to stabilize her.

Once Miller was stable, she was transported by AirCare helicopter to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where she was pronounced dead Tuesday.

The Johnson County Medical Examiner's Office will assist the sheriff's office in an investigation into Miller's death.

Assisting at the scene were Hills First Responders and Johnson County Ambulance.
