Red Cross looking for State Fair volunteers

Posted: Updated:

Volunteers from the American Red Cross of Greater Iowa will again provide first aid at the State Fair in Des Moines.

During the 2013 Fair, volunteers helped more then 5,500 people at two aid stations. This year, there will be three such stations, staffed from 8 a.m. to Midnight daily.

Volunteers work four-hour shifts. So far, about 80 people have filled about 300 shifts, but officials say they still have about 180 spots left to fill.

Volunteers must show certification in CPR/AED, first aid and blood-borne pathogens. The Red Cross is also looking for those with more advanced medical training.
