NEW YORK CITY (KWWL) - Iowa native Brooks Wheelan will not be returning to NBC's Saturday Night Live for a second season, according to the Hempstead High School graduate.

Wheelan, who was born in Manchester and went to high school in Dubuque, joined the cast of the long-running sketch-comedy show last season as one of eight featured players.

Wheelan tweeted that he had been fired from the show Monday afternoon:

"Had a blast and loved every second of it. I'm totally honored to be able to make this next joke... FIRED FROM NEW YORK IT'S SATURDAY NIGHT!"
