Former Hawkeye brings first Nike hoops camp to Iowa

The first Nike basketball camp to be held in the state of Iowa is going on this week at the Cedar Valley Sportsplex in Waterloo.

Former Iowa Hawkeye star Acie Earl is running the camp for school-age boys and girls.

Earl is the second leading scorer and all-time leader in blocked shots in Hawkeye basketball history. Acie says he has been coaching or directing youth basketball camps for more than 20 years. Earl says the Nike camp is a lot different than other camps.

"It's all high level stuff. We work on a lot of stuff they don't in a lot of other camps -- two ball dribbling, one-on-one moves, post moves, flamboyant passing, lob passing," Earl said. "We work on a lot of things the Nike stars do -- Blake Griffin, LeBron James, Chris Paul, Kevin Durant."

The Nike camp runs through Friday and Earl says he is still accepting walk-ins -- just drop by the Cedar Valley Sportsplex in downtown Waterloo.

The Nike camp starts at 9 a.m.
