UPDATE: Cedar Rapids man dies after Hwy. 100 crash

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - Police say a motorcycle driver has died after a Monday morning crash that briefly shut down the Hwy. 100/I-380 interchange.

Evan Volkers, 24, of Cedar Rapids, died at the hospital after colliding with a semi-trailer.

According to Cedar Rapids Police, Volkers exited I-380 northbound and turned west onto the Hwy. 100/Collins Road overpass, where he collided with a southbound semi-trailer.

Police say Volkers ended up underneath a semi-trailer Monday morning and had to be extricated by emergency personnel.

The driver of the semi was uninjured in the collision.

Police are asking any witnesses to the crash to call the Traffic Division at 319-286-5356.

The Highway 100 and I-380 interchange was shut down after a crash Monday morning.

Cedar Rapids police officers and firefighters responded to the accident involving a semi and a motorcycle just before 7 a.m.

Portions of the elevated Highway 100 and I-380 interchange were closed most of Monday morning as emergency crews continued to work the scene and conducted an investigation of the crash.

Drivers need to use an alternate route to avoid that interchange.

I-380 below the interchange remains open to traffic.
