A minor was taken into custody after an apparent retaliation from a July 4 incident in which the suspect himself was shot in the back of the leg.

Nathaniel Matlock, 17, was charged Monday with intimidation with a weapon, going armed with intent, felon in possession of weapons and carrying weapons.

According to the Waterloo Police Department, Matlock was shot in the leg on July 4. Sunday's incident may have been retaliatory, they say.

Matlock was allegedly seen running with a limp around a Waterloo neighborhood Sunday night and carrying a shotgun, police said Monday.

Police arrested one person and were still searching for more Monday morning after reports of a couple of people shooting at each other Sunday night in Waterloo.

It happened just before 9 p.m. Sunday night in the 600 and 700 blocks of Hope Avenue. That's a block off Highway 63 near Allen Hospital.

Police arrested at least one person.

Officers swarmed the area with rifles. There were no reports of injuries, but multiple shots were fired, and police believe at least one home was hit by bullets.

A tactical team fired tear gas into another house down the road. Police believe some of the people involved in the shooting ran into the home.

After several hours though, they realized no one was there.

Once the gas dissipated, police used a warrant to search the home for weapons.

As of 3 a.m., the family that owns the house was still out on the street looking for answers.
