Posted: Updated:

DUBUQUE, Iowa (AP) - Dubuque police say a group of women confronted a man accused of trying to meet a 9-year-old girl for a sexual encounter.

Police say 22-year-old Lonnie E. Burns arrived at an apartment June 30 after communicating on Facebook with a person he thought was a young girl. Instead it was the girl's mother.

The woman told police she pretended to be her daughter after noticing a private message between the girl and a man.

The Telegraph Herald reports (http://bit.ly/1kMxKJ9 ) the woman said she set up a time with the man to meet at an apartment, and Burns showed up. Police say the mother and two other women appeared. At least two physically assaulted Burns.

Burns faces a felony charge of enticing a minor. Court records do not list an attorney.
