Catholic Charities asked to provide housing for children

Posted: Updated:
WASHINGTON, D.C. (KWWL) - As Congress debates the border crisis, organizations in the Midwest are taking action now.

The director of Catholic Charities in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, says they've been asked to find sites for up to 300 children. Those places would need to handle the day-to-day needs of those children.

It's a different story in Dubuque. Catholic Charities in Dubuque says it won't coordinate a housing effort in eastern Iowa, but is getting information out to those who may be interested in providing housing for children.

Catholic Charities says there has been local interest. If you'd like information, click here: http://catholiccharitiesdubuque.org/catholic-charities-services/outreach-programs/unaccompanied-minors-immigration/

In Washington, President Obama is asking Congress for $3.7 billion to help meet the needs of tens of thousands of children who have crossed the border this year. The chairman of the House committee that controls spending says the asking price is too high and the House won't approve it.
