Dubuque native Kate Mulgrew gets Emmy nom for 'Orange'

A Dubuque native can now add "Emmy nominee" to her resume.

Kate Mulgrew was nominated in the Best Supporting Actress in a Comedy category for her role as Galina "Red" Reznikov, a Russian immigrant who runs the prison's kitchen, in the first season of the hit Netflix show, "Orange Is The New Black."

Mulgrew, a Dubuque Wahlert High School graduate, said she was sleeping when her boyfriend woke her up to break the news of her nomination. She's currently spending time in Virginia, where she's writing her memoirs.

Mulgrew is also known for her role as Captain Janeway on "Star Trek: Voyager."

"Orange Is The New Black" was nominated for 12 Emmys.

The 66th Annual Emmy Awards will be air on Monday, Aug. 25, on KWWL. It will be hosted by Seth Meyers.
