Shaun Hogan and Crystal Gaffney would have met in court

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The man who is suspected to have abducted three girls and wanted for questioning in a woman's death was supposed to appear in court in Waterloo on Thursday.

Shaun Hogan and Crystal Gaffney were scheduled to be in the Black Hawk County Courthouse for a hearing. Family members say the two have had an ongoing custody battle over their only child, an 8-month-old girl.

Police believe Hogan took that child and two other girls on Wednesday night, which sparked an AMBER Alert. The girls were found safe, and Hogan was taken into custody Thursday afternoon.

A woman's body was found on a road on Wednesday morning. Authorities are awaiting the results of an autopsy to confirm her identity. Crystal Gaffney's uncle tells KWWL he believes that woman was his niece.
