Authorities still investigating woman's death near Walker

WALKER (KWWL) -

Authorities need your help in identifying a woman's body found on a rural Linn County road.

The Linn County Sheriff is calling her death suspicious.

Sheriff Brian Gardner says they found the body on Linn-Buchanan Road, just east of Betty's Grove Road near Walker, at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday.

The woman had no identification on her, and deputies don't know exactly how long her body was out there.

However, the sheriff says the suspicious death is unusual for that rural Linn County area.

"Well I was hoping it was nobody from around here," said Judy Doyl, who's been living near Walker for decades. "I don't think we've ever had a problem before. I feel safe now."

Linn County Sheriff Brian Gardner tells us the woman was found fully clothed, but the exact cause of her death is still being investigated.

"We all feel safe. Neighbors will continue to look after us," said Walker resident Jane Meisheid.

Doyl and Meisheid has been living near Walker for all their lives and say, while this is alarming, their small town is still safe.

The Linn County Sheriff's Office, Buchanan County Sheriff's Office and Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation are calling this a suspicious death, meaning enough evidence is there to show that the woman's death is not natural.

There is not enough evidence to classify the woman's death as a homicide.

However, Sheriff Gardner says they're using the same amount of resources in this investigation as they would a homicide investigation.

"Based on the information we have at the crime scene, it appears that this is an isolated incident," said Gardner

Gardner says the public is not at risk and they don't yet know identity of the woman, but an autopsy will be done to determine her cause of death.

The woman has tattoo on her leg with a red heart, a purple star, green flames and says "MOM."

Police say she had another heart tattoo on the base of her neck.

The woman is believed to be a white or mixed race female with black hair, standing about 5 feet, 6 inches tall and weighing between 180-190 pounds.

If you can help identify this person, please contact the Linn County Sheriff’s Office at (319) 398-3911.
