Iowa City launches Youth Police Academy

Posted: Updated:

Kids in Iowa City will get a taste of what life is like 'on the force' in the Citizen Police Academy.

The Academy was traditionally open to residents 18 and older, but now, a new Youth Police Academy welcomes kids ages 14-17 who are interested in learning more about a career in law enforcement.

The program will be led by Iowa City Police officers, and include field trips to other law enforcement facilities, training on special response teams, crash investigations, gangs & drugs, bomb squads and firearm safety.

Registration is closed, but participants will be notified this week.
