Flood threat lower, but U. of Iowa protections still in place

IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Mostly dry weather over the past week is bringing good news to Johnson County.

The flood forecast is lower, and water is not expected to top the emergency spillway at Coralville Lake.

Still, flood protection measures at the University of Iowa will remain in place for the time being. That includes HESCO barriers.

Some buildings, including Mayflower Residence Hall, were also closed due to weather and will remain closed for the time being.

The protections will likely remain in place for a few more weeks.

The university is continuing to work on permanent flood protection and construction projects on campus stemming from the record flooding in 2008.
