MONTICELLO (KWWL) -

Monticello officials were working Monday to repair a water main break that had been dumping untreated sewage into Kitty Creek.

The break was discovered at 9 a.m. Monday, according to the City of Monticello.

Officials say a break in a collection line on the east side of town was dumping sewage into Kitty Creek, just behind the Blue Chip.

Kitty Creek runs to the Maquoketa River.

Officials were still working to repair the break as of Monday afternoon, and recommended pets and children stay away from Kitty Creek until further notice.
