Gesell, Woodbury set to head overseas

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

Iowa juniors Mike Gesell and Adam Woodbury are set to get some international experience this fall. The two Hawkeyes will represent the U.S.A. East Coast team at the Four Nations Cup in Estonia and Latvia.

Both players are currently tuning up their skills playing Prime Time League competition.

The trip is especially meaningful for Gesell. The point guard didn't play when Iowa went overseas last season due to a broken hand.

"I'm really excited, especially since I was hurt last year and didn't get a taste of the professional basketball," said Gesell, "Just to get over there and play against grown men, I think it will really help me expand my game, and it will really show me even more what I need to improve on to play against pros."

Gesell and Woodbury will leave for training camp at Columbia University on July 31. They'll fly to Estonia on August 2.
