Woman dies after officer-involved shooting in Ankeny

ANKENY (KWWL) - A woman is shot and killed after police officers said she pointed a gun at them. It happened around 5:15 p.m. Saturday on Springfield Road in Ankeny.

According to the Ankeny Police Chief Gary Mikulec, a caller said there was a resident at 915 Southwest Springfield Road who was armed with a gun and suicidal.

The chief said 59-year-old Marilyn Boyd refused to drop her weapon and pointed it at an officer. That's when the officer shot Boyd. She later died at the hospital.

The Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the shooting.

The chief said the officer involved has five years of experience with the Ankeny Police Department.
