Sanitary sewer overflows in Dubuque, public cautioned

Posted: Updated:
DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

A sanitary sewer main is overflowing on the south side of Dubuque, releasing untreated wastewater into Catfish Creek. Officials ask that children and pets be kept away from the area until further notice.

It's happening in the area of Old Mill Road and Rockdale Road. The cause of the overflow on the 24-inch pipe is likely due to the rising waters of the Mississippi River.

This has led to significant inflow and infiltration of waters into the sanitary sewer system.

City staff are working to solve the problem.
