University of Iowa installs final flood protections

Posted: Updated:
IOWA CITY (KWWL) -

All campus flood protection measures will be in place by Thursday night at the University of Iowa, according to officials.

People are strongly encouraged to avoid affected areas near the Iowa River for their own safety.

University operations will continue as normal at the hospital and clinics, and no classes have been canceled. However, Mayflower Hall and both sidewalks along the river have been closed. CAMBUS service to the dorm has also been suspended, and 12-foot flood barriers are now in place.

Sandbagging has been completed at the Water Intake and Power Plants.

North Dubuque Street is also closed from Foster Road to Park Road.
