Iowa City in need of sandbagging volunteers

IOWA CITY (KWWL) - The City of Iowa City is asking for sandbagging volunteers to protect public infrastructure from expected flooding.

Volunteers should contact United Way of Johnson and Washington Counties' disaster call center between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. by calling 319-337-8657.

The center is located in the Iowa State University Extension and Outreach Building at the Johnson County Fairgrounds on Oak Crest Hill Road SE in Iowa City.

Sand and bags are also available to residents who can fill their own at the City's salt storage building at 3800 Napoleon Lane.

Park Closures

Lower City Park will be closed until further notice due to rising waters. Upper City Park is still open. Furthermore, the Iowa River trail at Highway 6, Benton Street bridge trail and Napoleon Park trail are all closed until further notice.
