U.S. economy added 288,000 jobs in June

The United States Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Thursday the U.S. economy added 288,000 jobs in June, decreasing the unemployment rate to 6.1 percent.

 The economy was expected to add around 215,000 jobs.

According to household survey data, the nation's unemployment rate dropped 0.2 percent last month and the number of those unemployed decreased by 325,000.

Jobs were gained in areas such as professional and business services, retail trade, food services and healthcare.
