CORALVILLE (KWWL) -

UPDATE: The American Red Cross will open an emergency shelter at 5 p.m. Wednesday at the Johnson County Fairgrounds due to rising water levels in Coralville Lake

*****************

Johnson County Board of Supervisor officials have issued a mandatory evacuation for five unincorporated areas this afternoon due to widespread flooding .Residents

of the listed areas must be evacuated by 12:30 p.m. Wednesday:

-- Sand Road south of 560th Street to Highway 22

-- 6979 and 6951 Tri County Bridge Road and Lola Lane SE

-- All properties on River Front Estates Northeast

-- Izaak Walton Road, SE; Camino Del Rio, SE; Driftwood Lane, SE; Ocean Boulevard, SE

-- Winter Eagle Road SE, River Bend Road SE and Fountain Court SE

Current projections indicate the Coralville Reservoir Lake levels may exceed over 712 feet and go over the spillway as soon as July 9 or 10. Waters from Coralville Lake have only gone over the spillway twice; in 1993 and 2-008.

Chairperson Janelle Rettig was authorized to issue the orders after Gov. Terry Branstad issued a proclamation of disaster emergency.

The rising Iowa River could also impact Iowa City residents located at Normandy Drive, Taft Speedway, Rocky Shore Drive and the Iowa Avenue low point (Rail Bridge) as well as Stevens Drive.

Furthermore, the Johnson County Emergency Operations Center has issued a boating ban on the Iowa River below the Coralville Dam. This includes boating, canoeing, swimming or any other recreational use of the water.
