Volunteers help bag sand for flooding

CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

More than two dozen volunteers helped pack sandbags in the New Bo area in Cedar Rapids as a precautionary measure of anticipated flooding.

Volunteers sandbagged 56-tons of sand.

Volunteers say they're helping because the New Bo and Czech Village areas are the most thriving in Cedar Rapids.

"To me this neighborhood is important to me, it's where I work, I live nearby it's where I come for pleasure, so it's important for me to see the neighborhood stay healthy during a flood like this," said volunteer Preston Moore.

Volunteers were sandbagging in the north loading area and south entrance of the Market.

They plan to bag 5,000-6,000 thousand sandbags for the rising waters.
