Black Hawks' Montour, Friedman selected in NHL draft

WATERLOO (KWWL) -

Waterloo Black Hawk defensemen Brandon Montour and Mark Friedman took one step closer to realizing their NHL dreams on Saturday. Montour was selected in the 2nd round of the NHL draft by the Anaheim Ducks. The Philadelphia Flyers took Friedman in the 4th round.

Montour's 62 points (14 goals, 48 assists) ranked 9th in the USHL last season. No other defenseman appeared in the top 30. He also led the league with 16 points (6 goals, 10 assists) during the 2014 USHL playoffs. Montour is committed to play college hockey at UMass (Amherst) in the fall.

Friedman notched 40 points (10 goals, 30 assists) during the Black Hawks 2013-14 Anderson Cup campaign. The Bowling Green recruit also tallied 7 assists during the post season.

Since 2009, 18 Black Hawks have been selected in the NHL draft. That number is the highest amongst USHL teams, not counting the U.S. junior development program.
