Two grants help humane society get new adoption-mobile

The Cedar Bend Humane Society has a new adoption-mobile. It's a tool to help the humane society get out into the community more and find more animals good homes.

"Our goal is community involvement. Our adoption center is a great place for people to come and adopt animals, but we also see if we can go out into the community then we may be able to place more animals and reach more people," said Cedar Bend Humane Society Co-Director Kristy Gardner.

The Humane Society plans to use the adoption-mobile at numerous events: including adoption events, microchipping clinics, and vaccination clinics.

"The graphics, they were all done in house. We just wanted the vehicle to be real fun and real visible to the public so people know when they see it and what it's there for," said Gardner.

It was paid for with two grants totaling about $30,000 from the Black Hawk County Gaming Association and the Community Foundation of Northeast Iowa. The grants paid for the vehicle, the graphics, and outfitting the vehicle.

"So that will hold our crates and pet taxi and any educational materials we want to handout. If we want to set up a table in there and do microchipping clinic, we've been able to do that," said Gardner.

Look for the adoption-mobile around Black Hawk County this summer. It shouldn't be hard to spot.
