It's slow going, or growing, for a summer staple. Iowa sweet corn may not be ready for your 4th of July cookout, but at least that patience could pay off. Corn growers say the crop looks terrific right now.
Greg Rinehart, the past president of the Iowa Fruit and Vegetable Growers Association, has been growing sweet corn for the past 40 years. Rinehart says the corn is healthy and it should be ready for you, but not until July 10th or so. A cooler, wet spring slowed things down.
