Four arrested after Waterloo drug investigation

Posted: Updated:

The Tri-County Drug Task Force says they arrested four people following a year-long joint investigation with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Lieutenant Corbin Payne says officers from both agencies, along with the Iowa State Patrol and Federal Bureau of Investigations, executed search warrants in Waterloo at 206 Summit Ave., 125 Sherwood Ct., 301 Oak St. and 1103 Franklin Ave. on Thursday morning.

Payne says Lamonte Simmons, Denise Burrell, Emmanuel Newman and Rashaun Graves were arrested. He says Simmons is facing federal narcotics and weapons charges and Burrell is facing federal drug charges.

Payne added that Newman was charged with possession of a firearm as a felon and possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver. Graves is charged with interference with official acts.

Several others were detained and charges could be filed.

Payne tells KWWL that five handguns and an unspecified amount of crack cocaine were seized.
