WATERLOO (KWWL) -
The Tri-County Drug Task Force will be able to keep its current staffing levels thanks to two grants.
The task force, which has served Bremer and Black Hawk Counties since 1991, receives hundreds of thousands of dollars to fund the personnel, their benefits and overtime. However, due to federal funding cuts, the force was facing the possibility of having to take a 42 to 45 percent budget cut.
Lieutenant Corbin Payne, a Waterloo police lieutenant who is assigned to the Tri-County Drug Task Force, told KWWL on Friday that two grants, along with some help from the cities and counties it serves, will allow the task force to maintain its current staffing level for the next year.
