WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The Waterloo Community School District announced Friday Alissa Richards has been hired as the new principal at Central Middle School. Pending board approval, she will begin her new duties July 1.

Richards fills the position as John Netty, former Central Middle School principal, recently announced he's leaving the district and heading to College Community School District in Cedar Rapids.

Being with the district for two years, Richards has worked as the lead teacher at Poyner and Highland Elementary. Prior to coming to Waterloo, her teaching experience stems from working in Kentucky, Tennessee and Wyoming.

"The district is excited to have Alissa head Central Middle School for the upcoming school year, bringing her enthusiasm and love for teaching and children to the building," Dr. Jane Lindaman, superintendent for Waterloo Schools, said.
