Rental property task force recommends moratorium in Cedar Falls

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR FALLS (KWWL) -

A six-month moratorium is being recommended concerning a controversial rental property issue in Cedar Falls.

Thursday, a task force voted 6-2 to recommend the moratorium.  It would prohibit single-family homes from being turned into rentals in certain residential locations.  Concerns have been raised about the number of rental properties in the city.

The moratorium included a hardship clause that allows some new rentals in special circumstances.

It's unclear when the recommendation would go before the city council for a vote.  City Planner Marty Ryan tells KWWL that it could be August before a public hearing can be scheduled.
