DUBUQUE (KWWL) -

For 50 years now, the Dubuque County Historical Society has held its annual Ice Cream Social at the Mathias Ham House Historic Site.

July 4 marks the event's half-century milestone.

The event is on Independence Day, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

It's free and open to the public, though the Dubuque County Historical Society will accept donations. Proceeds will benefit the Mathias Ham House Historic Site, a property of the Dubuque County Historical Society.

The Ice Cream Social will offer cake and ice cream, as well brats, hot dogs, barbeque pork and more. There will be live music and living history demonstrations, including a canon-firing. Arts, crafts and games will be available for kids.

Visitors can tour rooms in the Mathias Ham House, experience frontier life at the Arriandeau Log House and Humke one-room school and participate in colonial activities. Tours of the house will be free that day.
