Waterloo Police: Veteran's death still suspicious

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) - Waterloo Police still don't know how 69 year-old Dennis Washburn died, but that autopsy tests are still being performed on his body.

Waterloo Police Lt. Michael McNamee said Wednesday morning that investigators at the State Crime Lab are still running tests to determine how the Vietnam veteran died.

Family members believe Washburn was beaten up and left for dead early in the morning on Memorial Day.

But McNamee said they don't have enough information to classify his his death as a homicide.

He said police talked with criminalists at the crime lab in Ankeny, and they will be running tests on Washburn's brain.

He expects those results could take another two weeks.

Anyone with information about Washburn's death is asked to call police or leave an anonymous tip with Cedar Valley Crime Stoppers: 855-300-TIPS (8477)
