NASA and Rockwell Collins test drones Wednesday

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) - NASA and Cedar Rapids-based Rockwell Collins will conduct joint drone tests Wednesday at the Eastern Iowa Airport in Cedar Rapids.

NASA aircraft will take off from the airport, as the two conduct tests with the ultimate goal of sending unmanned drones into the national airspace system.

The national airspace system consists of airports, air traffic controllers and other aspects controlling air travel.

The tests will also help the industry and the Federal Aviation Administration develop rules and requirements for drones in the national airspace system.
