IOWA CITY (KWWL) - Iowa City School administrators and city leaders broke ground at the site of the district's new school.

The new South Elementary school will be on the city's south side on South Sycamore Street..

The 15-acre facility is projected to be completed in  fall 2015.

Mayor Matt Hayek says the south end of town is increasingly growing.

This is just one of four new schools the district plans to build as the district continues to grow.

The district is still working on finalizing the new attendance zones for the next school year.

South Elementary will have several classrooms, a 2-court gym, along with soccer and baseball fields.

The construction budget is estimated at $11.2 million.
