Inflatable park regulations explained after safety concerns

Posted: Updated:
WATERLOO (KWWL) -

The safety of inflatable parks and bounce houses has been questioned multiple times this year.

Most recently in Waterloo, where 4-year-old Isaiah Neelans was found not breathing after getting caught in a rope at Thorp Family Fun Center. Neelans died six days later at the hospital.

At K-T's Inflatable Park, owner Katie Warren says an inspector from the State of Iowa comes in once a year to look at everything.

"Anything from anything hanging on the walls that may be hazardous to the inflatables. They go around and inspect the inflatables. The tether straps on our outdoor inflatables," said Warren.

Warren says when it comes to inflatables, you should look for a sticker placed on the blowers from the State of Iowa showing it's been inspected. She says for every new inflatable brought into the park, the state needs to come in a check it.

After four years in business she says they haven't had any serious accidents, but ultimately, safety for the kids needs to start with their parents.

"If you see anything out of place or something that's not safe or somebody, you know a child is doing something that is maybe dangerous we all try and work together to make sure that the kids are safe in the park," said Warren.
