Calendar change possible for Cedar Rapids schools

Posted: Updated:
CEDAR RAPIDS (KWWL) -

The Cedar Rapids Community School District is considering changing the 2014-2015 calendar, changing some early dismissal days to full release days and moving Spring Break.

The Board of Education wants to know what families think and is holding a public forum on July 14.

Under the proposed changes, the early dismissal days scheduled for October 8 & 22, November 5, and April 15 & 29 would become full-days. Instead, students would have the entire day off on October 24 and May 8. These days would serve as professional development days for staff.

The district is also considering moving Spring Break to March 16-20 which the district says aligns with other schools, including Kirkwood Community College. Break is currently set for March 23-27.

The July 14 Board Meeting will start at 5:30 p.m. at the Educational Leadership & Support Center, Boardroom, located at 2500 Edgewood Road.
