WATERLOO (KWWL) - Waterloo Police arrested one man in relation to a Monday night shots-fired call that may have involved a pellet gun.

Kristopher Darquel Spates, Jr., 20, of Waterloo, was arrested Monday night and charged with interference with official acts, driving while license barred and two counts of driving while license suspended.

No weapons charges had been filed as of Tuesday, though police say they located a pellet gun "a short distance" from Spates Jr.'s vehicle Monday.

Waterloo Police were called to the 400 block of Cherry Street around 8:30 p.m. Monday for a report of shots fired. As the investigation was occurring, at around 9 p.m. officers reported hearing multiple shots from a weapon, either a "small-caliber handgun or a CO2-powered firearm," officials said in a release Tuesday.

Police observed a black Ford Focus speeding from the scene and pursued it.

Police say that's when the driver, identified as Spates Jr., began shooting at a group of people near Cherry Street and Independence Avenue.

Spates Jr. then allegedly bailed out of the vehicle and ran into 520 Elm Street, where he was taken into custody, according to police.

The incident remains under investigation.
