Disabled Veteran Tax Form due next week

DES MOINES (KWWL) -

Forms for a new tax exemption law are now available and must be submitted by July 1.

The newly revised Application for Disabled Veteran's Homestead Tax Credit (Iowa Department of Revenue Form 54-049a) is available for completion and submission to local county assessor's offices by qualified disabled veterans and DIC (surviving spouses of veterans who died as a result of a service connected injury).

Gov. Terry Branstad signed Senate File 2352 into law on Memorial Day.

The law is retroactive to January 2014 as long as eligible veterans and families who submit the proper paperwork by July 1.

The form is available on the Iowa Department of Revenue website here: www.iowa.gov/tax

It is also available on the Iowa Department of Veterans Affairs website here: https://va.iowa.gov

Forms are also available at any county assessor's office.

    Starting today, U.S. 52 will be down to one lane on the Upper Iowa River bridge near Decorah. This is due to the bridge deck joint will be getting repaired. For now, motorists will be directed through the construction by temporary traffic lights. Signs will be posted in advance of the construction to reminder both directions of traffic to be alert. The Iowa DOT reminds motorists to drive with caution and obey the speed limit signs.More >>
